On the Line w/ The Boojums

getting to know Nova Scotia’s New Favorite Trio, The Boojums

Thanks for chatting with us. This is for a series called ‘On The Line’ where we get to meet bands and artists releasing music we love.

Where is your hometown?

Willie: Bedford, now Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton

Sara: Port Hastings, now Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton

Peter: Cape Breton

Who was the person that got you into music? Are you still in touch with them?

Willie: My parents, they haven’t disowned me yet!

Sara: My dad! Still in touch, affirmative

Peter: My parents, still in touch with them

Well shit…great job parents!

What's been the biggest non-music inspiration for you lately?

Willie: Robert Eggers’ movies, print media like zines and comic books have been getting me off the screens and feeling really inspired

Sara: I’m a teacher during the day and just being around kids and seeing that they’re not afraid to just go for it and try new things is really inspiring

Peter: Cross country skiing, local literature like Alexander MacLeod, Kate Beaton, and Lynn Coady, and ripping around on the four-wheeler chasing my cows and chickens with my kids.

Any thoughts on Trump thinking Canada should be part of America, ha! (Sorry! Had to ask!)

Willie: it didn’t work in 1812 and it’s not gonna work this time around!

Sara: it gives me the ick.

Peter: Sorry. No thanks. Sorry.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that new artists face?

Willie: honestly I think the biggest challenge can be yourself, getting past negativity and just being able to find what it is you want to do and how to connect with people artistically

Sara: overthinking, getting out of your head and overcoming your self doubt

Peter: just being in the present moment and finding people you can vibe with

Favorite restaurant in Nova Scotia and go-to order?

Willie: Mine is this amazing family owned lunch spot I used to go to literally every day called Rudy’s. Their Dagwood sandwich is a work of art

Sara: John’s Lunch in Dartmouth (RIP). The seafood platter was incredible

Peter: the Annex in Inverness and I usually order something I don’t think I’d ever like, and it always blows my mind. One time I ordered a carrot, and it was the best thing I ever had

Is there anyone you'd like to collaborate with? Other artists to appear on a song or even a visual artist for an album cover or merch?

Willie: I would love to have album art by Alexis Ziritt, his comic book art blows my mind

Sara: The Pill (from Isle of Wight) I love their songs and I also just wanna be friends with them

Peter: Oasis but really I just wanna have a pint with Liam

What's been the best thing that's happened since you started releasing music?

This interview!

What a day for a day
What a time to be alive
I feel alright
I feel aright
I feel alright alright

Have you had a "it happened for a reason" moment in the recent past? Something you weren't happy about at the time but turned out to be a good thing?

Our first single (Outta My Head) was delayed by the online distributor because of some glitch, so after a practice one night we decided to make a live video instead so at least we’d have something out. We put it on YouTube and it ended up gaining more traction than we thought it would, which allowed us to connect with some really cool people!

What platforms have been the most helpful with getting your music heard? Bandcamp, YouTube, IG etc.

YouTube, Instagram, and we made some great connections on Reddit. Shoutout to r/Offset!

How would you define success?

Honestly, hanging out and having a good time (and not losing your shirt)

Can you share one of your lyrics from your songs that sums up your state of mind RN / feels representative of you?

Willie: I feel alright

Sara: I feel alright

Peter: I feel alright, alright!

ALRIGHT! Thank you!
