rjtheweirdo joins Ty Dolla $ign’s EZMNY and introduces At Least She’s Beautiful
Born and raised in Dallas, rjtheweirdo comes from a musical family and started making music early with his dad, carrying forward a mindset rooted in simplicity, clarity, and emotion over everything. He first came up producing before stepping into his own voice, approaching songwriting as a way to express things he couldn’t otherwise say. Now signed to EZMNY with Ty Dolla $ign and Shawn Barron involved, he’s introducing At Least She’s Beautiful, a project that leans into vulnerability and self-reflection without overcomplicating it. Across the EP, he treats music as therapy, unpacking insecurity, ego, relationships, and accountability with a directness that mirrors how he describes his own process: more emotion than skill, being intentional, and not forcing himself into any one box.
That perspective runs through the project itself. At Least She’s Beautiful plays on the idea that something can sound good on the surface while holding something heavier underneath, a theme he returns to both lyrically and personally. As he steps further into the spotlight, he’s navigating what it means to share that level of honesty in real time, balancing confidence with imposter syndrome and leaning on faith, family, and his team to stay grounded. We got some time with him for the latest edition of our series, Nice To Meet You.
NICE TO MEET YOU: rjtheweirdo
Thanks for doing this. To start, did growing up in Dallas shape your sound and perspective as an artist?
Sure, Dallas is a melting pot for music. From artist like Erykah Badu to D.O.C to Post Malone, you just never know what to expect. And that defines my artistry because I can’t be put in a box.
You started making music with your dad early on — what are some of the biggest things you carry with you from that time?
Over-enunciate, keep it simple stupid, and more emotion than skill.
Where did your artist name come from? We love it!
Dealing with ADHD made me express myself different than everyone else. So I guess I got comfortable leading with what people didn’t understand about me.
The title At Least She’s Beautiful says a lot. What does that phrase mean to you beyond the surface?
It describes my music, meaning just because it sounds pretty doesn’t mean it is pretty.
“Just Because It Sounds Pretty Doesn’t Mean It Is”
At Least She’s Beautiful feels really honest about love, ego, and accountability. Is that kind of honesty in your lyrics something that comes naturally to you?
Music is therapy for me. It allows me to express myself differently than real emotions. So yes!
You produce as well as write — does producing your own music change the way you tell stories?
It helps.
Was there a moment while making this EP where something shifted for you — creatively or personally?
I would say I was more intentional this time instead of just making a song.
You’re now part of EZMNY with Ty Dolla $ign involved — how did that come about, and how has that co-sign impacted your career?
It came about through Shawn Barron. Having the co-sign from Ty is an honor based off of how much of a fan I am of his.
The EP touches on growth not being linear. What’s something you’re still actively working on in your own life right now?
I’m still working on courage and imposter syndrome.
In a world that can feel increasingly artificial, what’s been feeling real to you?
Shit, life! My family! My kids! My friends! My team! EZMNY — that’s been feeling real to me.
What’s the biggest challenge you’re navigating right now — and what’s helping you push through it?
Putting myself in front of so many people to sing my diary is the biggest challenge. What’s helping me through it is God!
Amen! If someone is discovering you for the first time, where should they start — and why?
I would say either “See Me” or “Self Sabotage” because those songs describe my insecurities the best.
Lastly — what’s one lyric from this project that best captures where you’re at right now?
“Just found my way back to God, don’t make me have to sin again for you”
