The Brighton-based songwriter begins a new project with Chris Coady and a video filmed at East London’s MOTH Club.
After her 2024 album Light Sleeper, Bess Atwell spent nine months in Quebec writing what would come next. She then headed to LA to work with Chris Coady, who has produced Beach House and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “The Act” is the first song from those sessions. It’s beautiful and flowing, we’re glad it’s here, and we can’t stop thinking about outdoor house cats.
Atwell says the song looks back at relationships she chose to leave behind: “I didn't want to have to do this alone, but I absolutely can.”
Directed by Shreya Jha and filmed at MOTH Club in Hackney.
