The legends are back with their first new music in five years.
Formed in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1984, Dinosaur Jr. helped shape the sound of alternative rock with their signature blend of fuzz-drenched guitars, soaring melodies, and introspective songwriting. Across four decades, the trio—J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph—have become one of indie rock's most influential bands, inspiring generations of artists. Now, after five years away, they're back with "Several Got Away," the first single from their newly announced album There Near, due August 28 via Jagjaguwar. The song delivers everything longtime fans have come to expect: Mascis' unmistakable guitar work, towering hooks, and the band's timeless mix of melody and distortion. If "Several Got Away" is any indication, There Near looks set to be another classic.
