Hardcore and Hip-Hop: The Tradition Continues
American hardcore band Knocked Loose — the Oldham County, Kentucky crew known for blending metalcore, beatdown and hardcore — have dropped a brand-new single and video, “Hive Mind (feat. Denzel Curry).” The track pairs the band’s brutal, break-heavy attack with a guest turn from veteran rapper Denzel Curry, pushing their sound into fresh territory while still feeling unmistakably Knocked Loose.
“Hive Mind” follows the band’s third studio album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To (released May 10, 2024 via Pure Noise Records), which was produced by Drew Fulk and marked a major step forward in both critical acclaim and visibility for the group. The record continued the band’s ascent in the hardcore/metal world, building on the momentum of earlier releases like A Different Shade of Blue (2019) and Laugh Tracks (2016), both also on Pure Noise Records.
In “Hive Mind,” Knocked Loose harness their signature aggression — tight, relentless riffs and pit-ready dynamics — while weaving in Curry’s fierce, high-energy performance. The result is a classic mash-up of hardcore and hip-hop that would make Biohazard and Onyx smile. It’s a bold statement complementing what the band’s body of work has built over more than a decade.
The new video — a visceral visual that matches the song’s kinetic force — was released alongside the single and adds another layer to the song’s impact. It was co-directed by Eric Richter and Bryan Garris (Knocked Loose’s vocalist) and filmed at the David Armstrong Extreme Park in Louisville, Kentucky, giving it a hometown energy. The release underscores Knocked Loose’s continued evolution and their willingness to push into collaborations that make sense sonically and culturally.
