The Long Beach legend’s rollout continues
Vince Staples has shared “White Flag,” the latest single and video from his upcoming album Cry Baby, due out June 5 via Loma Vista. The song follows recent single “Blackberry Marmalade” as the Long Beach artist continues the rollout for his next full-length project. The album features production from Mike Hector and Banshee The Great, who also produced “Blackberry Marmalade,” alongside additional work from Ovrkast and Kal Banx. Vince Staples also serves as an executive producer on the project, while the “White Flag” video was co-directed by Staples and Bradley J. Calder.
Earlier this week, a white flag matching the one featured in the video appeared outside legendary Los Angeles venue The Smell, where Staples hosted a free rehearsal session with fans ahead of the album’s release. He followed that by personally selling tickets at El Rey Theatre for his June 4 release show, continuing the direct and low-key creative approach surrounding the project.
Like “Blackberry Marmalade,” the “White Flag” visual arrives without much explanation, letting the imagery carry the weight on its own while Staples leans further into live instrumentation and a sharper, more immediate sound. Following the introspective direction of Ramona Park Broke My Heart and Dark Times, we’re excited to hear the full album. And if you haven’t seen The Vince Staples Show on Netflix yet, definitely check it out.
